As well as being a maths teacher at Queen Mary's Grammar School, Walsall, I am now the Lead Developer on the open source software 'GeoGebra'. We released a major new version in July including a new Spreadsheet View. GeoGebra is Dynamic Mathematics software and is rapidly spreading throughout the world (it is now translated into 45 languages; geogebra.org got 22 million hits in Oct 2009). It is probably mostly used in secondary schools, but has applications in primary and university sectors. As a result of this, I have given talks in places including Derby, Birmingham, Cambridge and Florida! It is a very exciting project to be involved in: we have many enthusiatic (and demanding!) users and lots of ideas to improve the software in the next few years. My interest in programming can be traced back to lessons in BBC Basic with Dr Bridges in the Remove! |

After working for Waterstone's for ten years I unfortunately got made redundant, another victim of the credit crunch. I am now retraining to work in a local primary school. I also work as a Classics examiner for OCR, so Latin lessons at KES did have some benefit. |

My current hobbies and interests are travel, bridge and philately. I was the Sceretary of the British Bridge League between 1978 and 1984, which involved attending all council and committee meetings, trials and tournaments. This I had to give up when the workload started to interfere too much with my working commitments, which have sent me all over the world, including long spells in Zambia, Somalia, Malaysia. My wife and I adopted a newly-born Malay boy in 2006, Ali Iskandar. He is now 3 1/2 and fluent in both Malay (from my wife) and English (from me). Looking after him is a full-time occupation, but extremely rewarding. I also have one grandson, Joseph, through my son from my first marriage. He is almost 2 years old. |

Having left King Edwards last July, I am now working in the film industry alongside my brother, Elliot, who has most recently worked on the new series of the BBC Drama Hustle shot in Birmingham. Last year we produced the King Edwards Prospectus Video which is now helping to showcase the school to pupils and parents. We are currently in post production on a short film for the British Legion about the poetry of the First World War and are planning to record the soundtrack written by two ex pupils with the KES School Orchestra in the new year. In 2010 we will be producing our first full length feature film which we will sell for Worldwide Cinema & DVD distribution and see one of our films up on the big screen for the first time. We have completed the first draft of the 120 page script and are now looking for independent investment to help finance the film's production. We will begin principle photography on this film mid year and have it close to completion by next Christmas in preparation for sales and distribution at global markets such as the Cannes Mipcon and Sundance Film Festivals in 2011. If anyone would like information on any of our projects or to get involved please email zander@ellianderpictures.co.uk" |
