Dr Neil Burnie: Ocean Vet

27 October 2017

A television series about the work of Dr Neil Burnie (1972), an ocean vet who died in a tragic diving accident in 2014, has recently aired in the UK.

The series, called Ocean Vet, is narrated by Michael Douglas and follows Neil and his team as they work with marine species in the Bermuda seas. Ocean Vet aired on PBS America in October and is now available to purchase on Vimeo On Demand.

Neil had lived in Bermuda for more than 20 years, where he ran the Endsmeet Veterinary Hospital and founded the Bermuda Shark Project. He was also a keen musician and performed in a blues band called Bones. Neil died helping fishermen friends recover their displaced lobster pots off Horseshoe Bay, when he got into difficulty whilst freediving and drowned.

An Assisted Place in Neil's name was established by his brother Jon Burnie (1970), and is currently supporting a keen biologist through the Sixth Form.
