New Street Remembered Launch
During February and March the school ran a special exhibition dedicated to its former site in New Street.
You can see photos of the evening here.
Report
The opening launch of the New Street Remembered Exhibition took place on Friday 21st January in the school's chapel, which was originally the upper corridor of the Barry building. The cold weather was not enough to dampen the spirits of over fifty Old Edwardians and guests who turned up to see the exhibition. Guests included the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress of Birmingham and four Old Edwardians who were taught in New Street and featured in the exhibition's 3D film.
The evening began with canapés and wine and a wander around the chapel to look at displays charting the history of the building and pieces of furniture designed by Augustus Pugin, which were originally at the New Street school. Before sitting down to watch the 3D film of New Street the Chief Master, John Claughton (1975), gave a speech in which he thanked the four old boys - Ronald Naylor (1931), Ken Smith (1936), Philip Edwards (1939) and Michael Roper-Hall (1939) - for taking part in the film. The Chief also thanked Alison Wheatley, the Foundation Archivist, who is responsible for putting the exhibition together.
The film of New Street, which features stereoscopic images of the New Street building and records the memories of the Old Edwardians who were taught there, brought the evening to a close with nostalgia running high.
