Oxford Lecture and Drinks Reception

On 4th March the Development & OEA Office held a lecture given by John Hawthorne (1983), Waynflete Professor of Metaphysical Philosophy at Oxford University, at Merton College.

Report

Over 60 old boys and current students gathered at the new TS Eliot lecture theatre for the inaugural Oxford lecture and drinks.  The lecture theatre at Merton College was so new in fact that the official opening was due to take place the following week.  The speaker Professor John Hawthorne (1983) spoke very engagingly for half an hour on the subject of religious knowledge before answering a number of questions from the audience.  A healthy debate ensued, which could have continued for some time if it was not for the intervention of wine and canapes.

There was a great atmosphere during the drinks reception as old boys of all ages caught up with each other and discussed the lecture they had just enjoyed.  The event was such a success that we are hoping to make this an annual event, taking place in Oxford and Cambridge on an alternating basis each year.
